VENERABLE ACHARYA BUDDHARAKKHITA
Venerable Acharya Buddharakkhita was born in 1922. In 1942, he took part in quit India movement and later joined Indian defense services after his graduation. After the II world war, he took ordination as a monk in 1948, traveled all over India, studied in Sri Lanka and Burma and finally established Maha Bodhi society in Bangalore and on its behalf established charitable schools, hostels, and hospitals. An author of some 150 books on Buddhism, he passed away on 23 September 2013.
MAHA BODHI SOCIETY
Maha bodhi society is a charitable organization established in 1956 by Venerable Acharya Buddharakkhita, a learned Buddhist monk, with the objective of reviving the teachings of the Buddha in the land of its origin. It aims to bring into practice the precious teachings of the Buddha - moral upliftment, mental purity and humanitarian services.
MAHABODHI FOUNDATION
Mahabodhi foundation Hyderabad is the latest affiliate of Maha Bodhi Society, Bangalore. It is an active, even thriving, organization with six resident monks and 27-trainee novices. The Vihara apart from providing spiritual guidance to the local Buddhists is engaged in spreading the Buddhasasana. The foundation has ambitious plans for developing the Vihara as an exemplary monastery and to build a self-contained retreat for meditation.
