Dhammacakka Pavattana Day is falling on Sunday, 9th of July 2017. The Buddha delivered his first sermon to the five ascetics at Deer Park near Varanasi. This teaching sets in motion the Wheel of Dhamma in the world, bringing enlightenment to countless beings.

This day is also the beginning of Vassāvāsa or Rains Retreat for the monks who take residence at one place and take to intense practices of Dhamma throughout the three months. Devotees also come to the local viharas and observe eight precepts on the Uposatha days.
